Social Security: What Financial Advisors and Their Clients Should Know - NAPFA and CFP Credit

E-Retirement Planning & Emp. Benefits

Published: 3/24/2022

This is a recorded webinar from March 24, 2022.
Description:

The Social Security claiming decision is more complex and impactful on retirement finances than retirees, and their financial advisors, may realize.

Without a comprehensive and detailed analysis of claiming age, future work, and taxation implications, retirees can miss out on hundreds of thousands of dollars and pay more in income tax over their lifetimes.

This webinar will focus on the need for personal financial advisors to understand and advise their clients on the rules that affect their clients’ claiming decisions and how this decision impacts their retirement finances and income taxes.

By considering taxation and the intertwined retirement financial decisions that result from the Social Security claiming decision, financial professionals can provide their clients with the most tax-efficient, consistently high standard of living while increasing long-term portfolio longevity.

This webinar will feature case examples to demonstrate the learning objectives and current proposed Social Security legislation will also be addressed.

Learning Objectives:

In addition to review of basic Social Security information, upon completion of this webinar, you will:

  • Know when and how the earnings test applies to retirees
  • Be able to explain what non-covered pensions are and how they affect Social Security benefits
  • Describe when and how much of Social Security is subject to Federal taxes, and which states also tax Social Security income

Content Level:

Intermediate
