Membership

NAPFA has multiple membership categories to meet the needs of a broad community of financial planning professional and students. No matter where you are in your professional journey, NAPFA has a membership category for you. Explore the options below to find the membership that’s right for you. NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor
This top level of membership requires a broad-based advanced education in financial planning and being a CFP certificant. You must offer Fee-Only comprehensive planning services and submit either a sample comprehensive financial plan or participate in a peer review, or have completed a Capstone Course.. The firm's current ADV on the SEC's IAPD website will also be reviewed. NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisors participate in the Find an Advisor consumer referral platform and benefit the most from NAPFA's public relations activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, in any discipline from an accredited institution
  • Obtain and maintain the CFP® certification
  • Agree to follow the Fiduciary Oath at joining and every renewal
  • Commit to earning 60 continuing education hours in every two year cycle 
  • Maintain the firm's current ADV on the SEC's IAPD website for review.
  • Submit either a Comprehensive Financial Plan, participate in a Peer Review, or submit proof of completing a Capstone Course.

 

The fee to join as a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor is $845.00. This includes $695.00 for annual dues and a non-refundable processing charge of $150.

If a candidate is not accepted for membership, all monies will be returned except for the application processing fee.

NAPFA Associate

This level of membership is geared towards Fee-Only professionals in a financial services or related industry who have not yet met the education and experience requirements to be a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor. NAPFA Associates have the opportunity  to expand their network by participating in local Study Groups, joining focused MIX groups, volunteering on Regional and National committee’s and task forces.

Requirements

·         If employed by a Financial Services firm, the firm's current ADV on the SEC"s IAPD website will be reviewed.

·         Agree to follow the Fiduciary Oath at joining and every renewal

 

The fee to join as a NAPFA Associate is $545.00. This includes $445.00 for annual dues and a non-refundable processing charge of $100.

If a candidate is not accepted for membership, all monies will be retuned except for the application processing fee.

 

Pathway Member

This level of membership is for individuals who have passed the CFP® exam and are currently looking for employment in a fee-only financial planning firm while working toward their experience requirement. Pathway members have access to all materials published by NAPFA; the opportunity to network through NAPFA’s local study groups, virtual communities and online discussion forums; receive member pricing on webinars and further discounted student pricing on conference registrations.

Requirements

·         You must not yet be employed by a financial planning firm

·         Agree to follow the Fiduciary Oath at joining and every renewal

·         You must have passed the CFP® exam and be working toward your certification


 The fee to join as a NAPFA Pathway Member is $249 with a processing fee of $75.
 

Academic Affiliate

This level of membership is for full and part-time faculty in a financial planning (or related) program, as long as they are not employed with a commission-earning firm and agree to use their access to NAPFA for educating their students on Fee-Only Financial Planning. Academic Affiliates have access to all of the materials and published by NAPFA; are able to participate in the NAPFA local study groups, virtual communities and discussion forums; receive the member rate on webinars and conference registrations; and access to the membership directory for connecting with advisor’s in your area.

Requirements

·         If employed by a Financial Services firm, maintain a current copy of the firm's ADV on the SEC's IAPD website for review.

·         Agree to follow the Fiduciary Oath at joining and every renewal

·         Must provide documentation confirming your position at an accredited institution of higher-learning


 The fee to join as a NAPFA Academic Affiliate is $200.00.

NAPFA allows for one complimentary Academic Affiliate membership per university, for CFP® Program Directors.  Program Directors should contact membership@napfa.org to receive their complimentary Academic Affiliation.

Student Affiliate

This level of membership is for full and part-time students in pursuit of a degree or designation in financial planning, as long as they are not employed with a commission-earning firm. Student Affiliates have access to all materials published by NAPFA; the opportunity to network through NAPFA’s local study groups, virtual communities and online discussion forums; receive member pricing on webinars and further discounted student pricing on conference registrations.

Requirements

·         If employed by a Financial Services firm, maintain the firm's current ADV on the SEC's IAPD website for review.

·         Agree to follow the Fiduciary Oath at joining and every renewal

·         Provide a current course schedule or a letter from your registrar office, on University letterhead, confirming enrollment


 The fee to join as a NAPFA Student Affiliate is $150.00.

If you are a full-time student in a degree program at an accredited university you may be eligible for the discounted Full-Time Student rate of $35.  Full-time students should  contact membership@napfa.org for a promo code.
