Tom Dickson will present the four most common ways financial planners use FHA-insured reverse mortgages (aka “HECMs”) while reviewing the criteria used to determine a client’s eligibility, the factors used to calculate how much a client may receive, how the popular credit line option works, and the unique protection made possible by the FHA insurance.
Financial Planner John Salter will review the various research studies that have been done on the use of reverse mortgages while sharing his insights and conclusions for each. John will also share his new research on how clients, when downsizing, may best finance the purchase of a new home.
Tom Dickson, National Leader of Financial Advisor Channel at Reverse Mortgage Funding LLC, oversees the education and support of financial advisors. Tom presents Four Common Uses of an FHA-insured Reverse Mortgage to financial planner study groups and events throughout the country.
Tom collaborated with Harold Evensky and John Salter on the inaugural academic research on reverse mortgages, which evaluated the efficacy of a reverse mortgage credit line as a portfolio management tool to improve client outcomes. The research, Standby Reverse Mortgage, A Risk Management Tool, was published in the Journal of Financial Planning and has been widely cited in financial publications and leading news media such as the Wall Street Journal.
Tom’s monthly webinar series, www.RetirementExpertsNetwork.com, has educated over 50,000 financial advisors on topics ranging from Social Security to Veteran Benefits to College Financial Planning to Reverse Mortgages.
