U.S. government-backed debt has been noted and advocated as the superior portfolio diversifier. This presentation by Jon Luskin, MBA, CFP®, of Define Financial in San Diego, CA, quantifies the value of U.S. government debt relative to U.S corporate debt in a portfolio alongside stocks. This will better enable advisers to produce the optimum portfolio allocation for their clients.
Jon will also examine total portfolio performance in market drawdowns, and review:
• Risk (as measured by standard deviation of returns), and
• Risk-adjusted return
…as analyzed across the different bond asset classes.
He will include the impact of performance on state and local taxes in the analysis. Jon has been recognized as one of the industry’s top young advisors by InvestmentNews. For his master’s thesis on investment management, Jon showed how university endowments can generate more wealth (and take on less risk) by adopting low-cost investment strategies. His original research on investing has been published in the academic peer-reviewed Financial Planning Association’s Journal of Financial Planning.
