1 CFP® CE and 1 NAPFA CE in A – Financial Planning Process
Member: Free; Non-Member: Free

Description:
This course aims to help financial advisors provide meaningful guidance to parents worried about how to afford college for their children. Studies indicate that high net worth parents, in particular, value college for their children. Because of the limited time frame to save for college, advisors should counsel clients to start when children are young. Most families will need several of the tools presented in this webinar to pay for college, including saving, gaining financial aid, and judiciously helping their children select a school that is right for them.

Learning Objectives:
• Learn how to recognize the importance HNW and mass affluent parents attach to their children attending college
• Be able to demonstrate how much a family would be expected to pay for college
• Understand current trends in college financing including how financial aid eligibility is determined
• Describe how much families can reduce college expenses by planning and saving
• Understand top factors clients can use to identify appropriate college choices for them

This is a Partner Solutions webinar sponsored by Private College 529.

Speaker Bios:
As Chief Marketing Officer of Private College 529, Joanne Dashiell develops resources that help families save for college and minimize student debt. Joanne’s higher education career began working in financial aid at both public and private academic institutions. Seeing the need for earlier education, her passion turned to developing outreach programs at Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) and then at American Student Assistance, where she led a national team of consultants dedicated to helping colleges deliver financial literacy programs. Just prior to joining PC529, Joanne was the Executive Director of the financial aid consulting firm, Higher Education Assistance Group.

Gail Holt is Dean of Financial Aid at Amherst College. She provides strategic direction and leadership for Amherst’s comprehensive, fully need-based financial aid program, meeting 100% of demonstrated need without loan. Amherst College is "need blind" — applying for financial aid will have no bearing on the admission application process. She also sees the college funding side from the perspective as a parent of a new college freshman. Holt is a graduate of Boston College and earned her master’s degree from Boston University.

Jonathan is Director of Strategic Partnerships at Private College 529. In his role, he is responsible for developing and enhancing partnerships that elevate the Private College 529 brand and support strategic growth initiatives. Jonathan started his career working in the financial aid office at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. During his time at WPI and throughout his career, Jonathan has counseled students and families on college planning, savings, financing and general financial education while also supporting strategic partners in delivering financial education to their students and members. Just prior to joining PC529, Jonathan served as Associate Director at the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA), leading their college relations team during a time of growth and transition into a national lender.
